February 2001 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee is finalizing the SAC Insert for distribution to staff in February. A query to representatives about communication to constituents was done. At present, 22:50 representatives have responded (46%). Using the lists regularly - 15:22; have not yet sent a message - 7:22 and four of these seven requested help. The committee will be working to communicate with the remainder of the representatives to determine whether list use would be of benefit to them and how we can assist them in getting it started. If you would like to receive communication from your SAC representative, e-mail ajp3@po.cwru.edu to get connected with a representative. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, February 13, at 12 noon in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee will host a bake sale on Thursday, March 29, 2001 to benefit of Miracle Village. Flyers will be posted to advertise this event. Community Service Committee will meet Thursday, February 15, at 12 noon in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center

Elections Report:

The committee is seeking nominations for the SAC vice chair officer election. Any current representative can be considered. Each candidate will give a brief presentation at the April 5 Council meeting, and then election by mail will be conducted after that. The committee is brainstorming ideas to promote candidates for the general election this June. Elections Committee will meet Tuesday, February 13, at 3:00 p.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

Two subcommittees are working on retirement benefit improvements and enacting short-term disability insurance and/or leave donation. The Retirement subcommittee has given recommendations to Earl McLane for improvements in the staff retirement plan B and plan C. The Leave Donation subcommittee is investigating short-term disability insurance as a potential benefit. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, February 19, at 12:00 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee is currently working on interim appointments. The Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, February 20, at 10:30 a.m. in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee is calling for nominations for the 2001 President's Award for Distinguished Service. Please follow the instructions on the web site and submit all nominations by March 15, 2001.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The committee is still researching training media, particularly videos, which would be of interest to supervisors and staff. Before beginning any new projects, the committee is waiting to meet the new Director for Education and Development and discuss the directions of the Department of Human Resources. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, February 14, at 12 noon in 209 Crawford Hall.
