February 2000 Newsletter

Communications Report:

Survey results from the past two Benefits Fairs are being analyzed and will be presented at the April 6 Council. The committee is developing methods to track, analyze and assist in communication among staff and SAC members. The committee is planning a weeklong celebration of ten years of dedicated work in the University. Committee is planning a weeklong celebration of 10 years of SAC service for May 22-26, 2000, in which each committee will sponsor an event to raise awareness of the communications vehicle for University staff and administration. Communications Committee will meet Wednesday, February 16, at 3 p.m. in Adelbert Hall, Room 351.

Community Services Report:

The committee donated 300 lb. of food to the Cleveland Food Bank, which was collected during the Benefits Fair in December. Congratulations to Al Pollack who was randomly selected for CWRU jacket donated by the University Bookstore. The committee is developing a "CWRU Community Service Day." Community Services Committee will meet Thursday, February 17, 1 p.m. in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center.

Elections Report:

Nominations for 2000-2001 officer elections are open until Friday, March 24, 2000. The Council officers include chair, vice chair, and secretary. Current or past elected SAC representatives are eligible to run for an officer position. Please contact committee chair, Theresa Emerson, by phone (ext. 2982) or via e-mail tme@po.cwru.edu with any questions regarding this election. Elections committee will meet Tuesday, February 8, 2:30 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room 604.

Fringe Benefits Report:

Committee members will be working in two subcommittees, gathering information on various aspects of Retirement Planning and Leave Donation Policies; the committee welcomes your thoughts and ideas. The committee has changed its regular monthly meeting times to the third Monday of the month at rotating times of 8:30 a.m., 12 noon and 4 p.m. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, February 21, at 12 noon in Adelbert Hall, Room 352.

Staff Policy Report:

Drafting ideas for improving performance management and timely salary review; suggestions will then be submitted to the University Administration. Personnel Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, February 16, at 10:30 a.m. in Adelbert Hall, Room 353.

Staff Recognition Report:

Solicitation of nominations of a CWRU non-faculty employee for the President's Award for Distinguished Service. This annual award honors staff members who most exemplify outstanding citizenship through excellence in performance, service and commitment to the University. Honorees will each receive a $500 cash award, have their names engraved on a plaque located in Tomlinson Gallery, and will be recognized at the service awards luncheon. Staff Recognition Committee will meet Wednesday, March 1,at 12 noon in Adelbert Hall, Room 351.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The committee has recommended new materials for Employee Resources housed in the Kelvin Smith Library. Within the next few months the committee will start viewing instructional videos for purchase for the Resource Center also. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, February 9, at noon in Adelbert, Room 1.
