STAFF
ADVISORY COUNCIL

Annual Report 2001-2002

Accomplishments

This year we experienced a new process precipitated by a tie in the School of Engineering election. For the tiebreaker we designed a system using a voting booth to increase voter participation. This proved to accomplish that goal with ease.

As instituted last year, a breakfast replaced the previous luncheon for the 2002 fall orientation. It was well attended, and will be the event of choice again next year.

For a second consecutive year we honored our neighboring Fire Department with a care package that was very well received with appreciation. This proved to be a successful community service event.

Future Goals
Without the election, there would be no representatives or a Council. Our biggest goal, as always, is to increase participation in the Staff Advisory Council. A full list of nominees to serve as representatives in all management areas is therefore essential. We will again be utilizing a nominating committee in conjunction with the traditional nomination process. We plan to expand visibility and participation by utilizing the voting booth method that was so successful during the tiebreaker election held for the School of Engineering. Plans for the upcoming election to be held in the summer 2003 that include the voting booths strategically placed in/near the participating management centers.

We will need to initiate a change in the constitution to include directives in the event of a tie occurring in a management center election.

Plans to reevaluate the constitution breakdown of management areas is underway; such as moving the Library staff to be included under the Law School management area rather than listed under University Administration.
