Accomplishments
The Election Committee has strived to make changes this year in order to make a successful election process and orientation program for new members. First, the biographical information and nomination process is becoming more automated thus making it easier for editing and for the creation of the ballot. Second, changes were approved recently to change the time constraints on the committee to complete the election process. Third, the management's areas, which were up for re-election, had increased voter participation in all but one area. See attached statistic sheet. The committee also played a part in the Ten Year Staff Advisory Council celebration by working with the Community Service committee in a bake sale where the proceeds went to a local charity.
Future Goals
Without the election, there would be no representatives or a Council. This election year will be the first under the new constitution allowing the committee to revise the election calendar allocating us more time and hopefully gaining more support and participation. This committee continues to increase involvement and interest in our work. Procedures will be developed for creating level proportions within the two largest management groups, the School of Medicine and University Administration. The nomination process will be re-evaluated with the objective of eliminating representative vacancies at the start of a term. A full list of nominees to serve as representatives in all management areas is therefore essential. The creation of a nominating committee will be carefully reviewed as possible alternative to the current protocol. The Staff Advisory Council will establish itself as the venue for its members to voice and direct their concerns. The election process will become a highly anticipated and participated event each year. These goals and ideas will serve to strengthen the Council and enhance our own personal growth. It is a tremendous honor and responsibility to serve as representatives of the Staff Advisory Council.
NOTE: Meetings for the 2000-01 year will be held on the second Tuesday of the month at 3:00 p.m. in Room 604 Crawford Hall.
