Institute for the science of origins

origins of solar systems.

The early history of the solar system is recorded in its most primitive objects.

Origins fellows Ralph Harvey and Jim Van Orman study meteorites and samples returned by NASA missions to unravel the timing of events at the birth of the solar system, and the processes by which the planets formed and evolved.

Director Glenn Starkman works to develop NASA missions that can measure the atmospheres of planets around distant stars and look for evidence of life.
