Zeta Psi’s 160th Annual Convention
August 18th, 2007 found the conclusion of the 160th convention of the Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America in Lincoln, Nebraska. Nearly 300 Zetes, families, and friends attended various informational sessions, the Grand Chapter, evening social events, and the Grand Banquet.
The actives and alumni at Nebraska Wesleyan Zeta Psi Chapter welcomed their guests graciously with a Minor League Baseball game, Pig Roast Casino Night, Murder Mystery Theatre, and numerous other opportunities to discover all that Lincoln has to offer.
The International Headquarters of Zeta Psi has been quite busy overseeing its chapters. The existence of multiple interest groups and the formation of several new colonies speak to the continuing expansion of Zeta Psi across North America.
Locally, the Nu Chapter had an exceptionally strong presence. There were 4 Nu Chapter Alumni in attendance: Bruce Eckstein, one of the conventions top sponsors; Ron Cass, Nu Alumni Board President; David Loomis, Current ZeteKidz Educational Foundation Board Member; and Franklin Mayse, former Alumni Relations Chairman. Furthermore, there were 4 Nu Actives: Jonathon Fagert, Chapter Phi; Mitch Cooper, Treasurer; and Ben Meck, former Chapter Officer; Trevor Ilse, Former Chapter Phi.
Furthermore, the Nu Chapter was recognized in many facets for the tremendous amount of work and service to Zeta Psi, Case Western, and the community. Jon Fagert was elected to the Executive Board of Zeta Psi Fraternity of North America as a member-at-large Undergraduate Representative. Franklin Mayse was awarded one of six Phi Alpha’s Outstanding Undergraduate for his extensive work on the Cleveland Convention Proposal. Ben Meck received an Outstanding Achievement award.
Perhaps the most exciting event for the Nu chapter occurred during the Grand Banquet, which concludes Convention and during which the highest awards are awarded. This year, the Nu Chapter was present the McElroy award for the second consecutive year. This award is given to the chapter who has won the Most Outstanding Chapter three years consecutively.
Overall, the Nu Chapter was represented very well yet again in thriving International Fraternity and was awarded the highest honor possible for a chapter. Zeta Psi is planning its 2008 convention in Montreal, Quebec before coming to our own Cleveland, Ohio in 2009.
