SatCo
The Spartan Tappers host a SatCo ("Saturday College") every semester. SatCo gives students and
community members a chance to try tap dancing for an hour and a half, and serves as a basic
introduction to tapping. Teachers and advanced level tappers teach the SatCo every year.
| Tap Dance: An Introduction to Steps and Rhythms |
| Members of the Spartan Tappers will provide students with an introduction to basic tap dance steps that are the foundation of more complex combinations, including brush, step, stomp, shuffle, flap, ball-change, digs, and scuffs. The terminology and rhythm of these steps will be examined, and students will participate in active physical attempts at execution. A short demonstration of a tap dance routine will provide an example of how these steps are used in combination. Students will gain an idea of the variety of sounds and rhythms that can be made with the feet, and have exposure to typical methods of counting rhythm and dance. The session will also provide students with information on semester-long lesson and performance options. |
Information for Attendees
If you have tap shoes, please bring and wear them. Any kind will do. Otherwise, please wear (ladies) flat soled dress or character shoes or (men) a pair of dress shoes.
Or if you want, just "tap" in your socks! Also, we suggest wearing workout clothing suitable for movement.
