- Funding Requests
- SPILF Spring Auction: $429.52
- Emily Weidenhamer: allotted $290 for the spring auction. Auction will benefit SPILF and every penny will be given to case law students who will be working at unpaid internships. This year there has been a lot of planning – 21 donations already with 5 weeks left until the auction. There is a lot of publicity, including a mailing to alumni. They want to include local attorneys in the public interest area. They need more funds to run the action, especially for food and drink, since more people will be coming. Prices based on estimates from Costco. $720 total cost estimate, so they are requesting the remainder.
- Senate Counsel Kringel: wasn’t this with commencement committee in the past? Emily: Last year no, but doesn’t know about past years. Commencement committee helped last year with the date auction. Pres. Choy: it used to be run by SBA and commencement committee used to help. How much was original request was for? $500.
- Sen. Logue: in Blackacre? Yes, and that’s bar review for the night. Silent and live auction
- Sen. Kuhn: inviting alumni and lawyers? Yes.
- Senate Counsel Kringel: use any proceeds to pay for any of the auction? No. Everything raised goes into fellowship fund
- Sen. Bhushan: how much did you raise last year? $1900. Last year only had about 15 auction items. What was budget last year? Didn’t use it all, but spent maybe $300-400.
- Discussion:
- Sen. Zink: give them all the money
- Sen. Logue: agree with Zink because good use of student fees. May not have 300 people come, but still a good event
- Sen. Illar: motion to give amount requested. 1 nay – motion passes.
- SBA Commencement Committee LLM Fund: $1456.00
- Sen. Kuhn: We forgot to include LLMs when allotting money, which was about $5000 that wasn’t allotted. Since at least 1/3 will show up to the events, asking for 1/3 of the money that wasn’t originally allotted.
- Sen. Bhushan: what does LLM fund go to originally? Usually pays for whatever commencement activities there are and what other activities there are. At 100 day party, about 1/3 LLMs show up and it costs more money.
- Sen. Davidson: where is this money right now? LLM fund is in the general fund.
- Sen. Wolf: does this come from the general reserve fund? Yes.
- Sen. Illar: what will the money be used for? Look at back of sheet. There are two other events too.
- Sen. Nardulli: $1456 is 1/3 of LLMs times their contributions to general fund? Yes. Not necessarily based on amt we need. Keep ratio the same.
- Sen. Schmitt: the way commencement committee got funds they already have is 3Ls * amt contributed? One way we’ve included them and one way we haven’t. Last year commencement committee got $18,000. This year budget was knocked down to $17,000. It’s about 30%, not 33%.
- VP Holmes: has the # of people been added for each person to go to the events? It’s a number that seemed fair. We wanted to ask for some portion of the money to increase number of available slots at the events to accommodate the LLMs.
- Sen. O’Brian: spots reserved for LLMs? They will be invited – they can sign up just like all 3Ls.
- Sen. Bhushan: fair estimate and money coming from general fund. Motion to grant funds.
- 3 opposed, 4 abstentions – passes.
