SBA Candidacy Form Instructions

Introduction
This year, the Election Commission will be accepting Candidacy Forms online for the first time. Because the application process is not yet complete, the Election Commission cannot provide step-by-step instructions; however, the process has been designed to be intuitive and should be relatively straight forward.

Preparation
Completing your Candidacy Form online will be easier if you have a couple of items ready before sitting down to fill out the application. Prior to filling out the application, candidates should have the following already prepared:

  • Headshot (a small photo of yourself – it doesn’t need to be professional)
  • Slide (see below)
  • Answers to the questions on the Candidacy Form (self-explanatory)

Headshot
For the first time, candidates will be required to submit a headshot with their Candidacy Form. The headshot doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just a small photo of yourself. It will be displayed on your printed Candidacy Form as well as next to your name on the electronic ballot. Because the photo will be relatively small in size, it should be along the lines of a composite/passport photo (head and shoulders). The photo is subject to the approval of the Election Commission and will not be approved if it is offensive or inappropriate. The Election Commission or the Help Desk can assist you with this if you don’t have any friends (although, if you don’t have any friends that will take your picture for you, you may wish to reconsider running for elected office).

Slide
The Election Commission will be using a monitor located outside the SBA Office to display a slide of show of candidate-submitted slides. This will be similar to a continuously running PowerPoint presentation. Each Candidate is asked to create one slide and save it as JPEG file. The file will be submitted along with your Candidacy Form. Suggested content would be an appropriate photograph along with your name, the position you are running for, and either a campaign slogan or a few bullet points about what you hope to accomplish if elected. It is our hope that a default slide will be created if the candidate does not wish to create their own. The Election Commission or the Help Desk can assist you with this.

Submission
The Candidacy Form will be available online on the Case Law Intranet during the dates specified in the Election Procedures. Candidates must log on to the Intranet to fill-out and submit their Candidacy Form.

Questions?
Please feel free to contact any member of the Election Commission if you have questions. Because this is the first time we’re using this process, we expect there to be things we didn’t consider. Please let us know if you encounter any problems or have any suggestions to improve the process.
