Spring 2007 Event Schedule


January 19      Volunteer Fair
Hovorka Atrium (btw Millis, DeGrace, Clapp etc.) during Community Hour. Representatives from area hospitals will provide waysto become involved in volunteer activities around Cleveland.

January 24      First Executive Board meeting (officers only)
Location will be the Clock Tower library in House 3. Every exec. meeting will be in the same location.

January 28      Winter Extravaganza
4-6:30 pm at the Ronald McDonald House on Euclid Ave. Plan for an exciting event at Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland! AMSA members will play games with house residents and then team up to provide a hearty pastameal for dinner. Participation is limited to only 15 members, so contact Anna Neyman (anna.neyman@case.edu) ASAP to reserve your spot!

February 6      First General Body Meeting
Location for all general meetings will be the Thwing Center Spartan Room.

February 5-16      Battery Drive
11:30am - 1pm. Batteries will be collected in Thwing and Nord. Pediatric floors often have toys for the children but over time the batteries wear out easily. Along with the Balwin-Wallace College premed AMSA chapter, we will collect batteries to support pediatric wings. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate batteries and/or cash donations.

February 13     Concordia Service Project
Concordia Care, a Cleveland Heights senior center, is inviting AMSA to participate in an afternoon ofcelebrating Valentine's Day. We will bring arts and crafts and bake some goodies for the residents.

February 5 - April 6      Shadowing Program
Various medical specialties can be shadowed in a variety of departments in order to develop and refine career interests of physicians-in-training. Participation will be limited to 20 students, and an application will be available to download in January 2007.

February 19 - April 9      Pop Tabs Drive
In order to help children in need of dialysis at Cleveland's Ronald McDonald House, aluminum tabs (from the tops of soda pop cans) will be collected as a show of support of the Ronald McDonald House. Residence Halls will have collection envelopes near the lobbies of the first floor.

February 20-24      Global AIDS Week of Action
AIDS is one of the greatest health crises of our generation. Our premed chapter will be organizing events through this week focusing on prevention and education, in coordination with the medical school and the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland.

Late February      Lead Poisoning Prevention Community Seminar
3 of our local neighorhoods have high rates of lead poisoning - some of the highest national rates. AMSA will join forces with a local non-profit organization called Concerned Citizens Organized against Lead (CCOAL) to provide a public seminar on residential lead exposure. The program is still under development, so check back for more details.

March 6      Second General Body Meeting
Thwing Center Spartan Room.

Last Week in March      Judson Park Service Project
Set aside some time to share with the residents of Judson Assisted Living, located right next door in University Circle. AMSA will bring along games and arts and crafts materials.

April 3      Third General Body Meeting
Thwing Center Spartan Room.

Mid-April      Medical School Fair
Representatives from asampling of medical schools will be in attendance at Case to share information about the curricula and degree programs offered by their institutions. This is agreat opportunity to learn about many of the different medical school options in the United States.

Mid-April      Cholesterol/Blood Pressure Screening
Along with medical students and physicians from CCF and UH,AMSA members will set up a block of time where local residents can come in to have cholesterol level lab work and blood pressure readings.

April 14      Reading Rainbow
Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital
Take a break from studying and spend an afternoon with the children at RB&C. AMSA will provide books and snacks.

April 25      Medical School Fair
