Hey there Newman,

Welcome to version 13 of this year’s Newman News, my favorite number by the way, so hopefully this will be a good one.  Please read on to find out about our upcoming events!

·         There will be Eucharistic Adoration today, Friday the 7th, at Holy Rosary immediately following the 12:15pm Mass.  It will end with a short Benediction and closing prayer service at 7:00 pm.  We encourage you to stop by and spend some time in the presence of our Lord.

·         We will be concluding the Rosary this weekend with the 5th Luminous Mystery, which is the Last Supper and the Institution of the Eucharist.  Please come a few minutes before 6pm to join us in prayer.

·         Diocon, is coming up next weekend!  Diocon is the annual conference for Catholic students from across the Diocese of Cleveland and it will be held at the St. Joseph Christian Life Center in Euclid.  The theme will be what it means to be a Catholic in the modern world.  The conference goes from 9am-9pm on Saturday with an optional overnight with breakfast and Mass on Sunday.  If you are interested, you may pick up information at Hallinan or talk to our campus minister, Kirsten (kkloaja@dioceseofcleveland.org).

·         Our Professor Prayer campaign is still going strong.  Cards with professors names are available on the bench by the door inside Hallinan.  Information sheets are available as well with a suggested prayer.  Thanks to all who have been praying.

·         Live in Love, the chastity group that is getting started on campus is still looking for prospective members and leaders.  Please contact Chris Kolibaba (csk10@cwru.edu) if you are interested or to get more information.

And, taking a peek into the rest of the month:

·         Taize prayer is coming up again on Thursday, November 20th.  Taize includes chanting, scripture readings, intercessions, silence, and candlelight.  Please contact Jenny (jle6@cwru.edu) if you would like more information.

·         There will be a group headed to St. Colman's on Saturday, November 23rd, teaming up with the parishioners of Holy Rosary this time to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the poor people of West Cleveland.  Food will also be prepared the night before.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Phil (ptk3@cwru.edu).

·         And, as always:

    • Sunday Mass, 6pm, Hallinan Center
    • Daily Mass, 12:15pm, Weekdays at Holy Rosary
    • Confession, 4-5pm, Saturdays at Holy Rosary
    • Nightly Rosary, 9:45pm Mondays on Northside, 9:30pm all other days on Southside
    • Spend some time with the Blessed Sacrament, 8am-5pm (ish) M-F, Hallinan.

Patristic Quote of the Week

Theodore of Mopsuestia: “When [Christ] gave the bread he did not say, ‘This is the symbol of my body,’ but, ‘This is my body.’  In the same way, when he gave the cup of his blood he did not say, ‘This is the symbol of my blood,’ but, ‘This is my blood’; for he wanted us to look upon the [Eucharistic elements] after their reception of grace and the coming of the Holy Spirit not according to their nature, but receive them as they are, the body and blood of our Lord.  We ought . . . not regard [the elements] merely as bread and cup, but as the body and blood of the Lord, into which they were transformed by the descent of the Holy Spirit” (Catechetical Homilies 5:1 [A.D. 405]).
