Hey Newman,

We’ve got a full newsletter for you after being gone for a couple weeks, so without further ado:

·         Before Mass this weekend, we will be praying the 2nd Sorrowful Mystery of the Rosary, The Scourging at the Pillar.  Please joins us a few minutes early to meditate on Jesus’ life through the eyes His mother, Mary.

·         For dinner after Mass, we will be serving macaroni and cheese, fruit and/or vegetables, and cookies.

·         Also, this Sunday, 3/21 at 7:30pm, Bob Lowry, the Director of the Center for Professional Ethics here at Case, will be joining us to speak about being a Catholic professional and ethics in the workplace.

·         Tomorrow (Saturday, 3/20), there will be a group traveling to St. Colman’s to help serve a meal to the poor.  If you are interested in going, please contact Jeff (jcs27@cwru.edu) who will be driving.  The group will be leaving at 1:15pm and will return to campus around 6pm.

·         Taize is coming up this Wednesday, 3/24 at 9pm at Hallinan.  Please joins us for an hour of pray, music, and meditation.

·         This Sunday, 3/21, the Church of the Covenant will be hosting Father George Smiga and Rabbi Roger Kline who will have a discussion on Mel Gibson’s film, The Passion of the Christ.  The discussion will be from 2:30-4:30pm and costs $10 for non-students, but is free for students with an ID.

·         Just a reminder: Holy Rosary has Stations of the Cross at 7pm every Friday during Lent.

·         At Mass this weekend, Kirsten will be handing out leadership discernment information for those who are interested in being leaders at Newman next year.  If you are not able to come to Mass, but are interested in the opportunity, or if you just have questions about being a leader in general, please contact her to get the information (kkolaja@dioceseofcleveland.org).

·         Much thanks to our Newman members, Tran and Craig who served us dinner last time we met for Mass!  If you are interested in helping to cook the meals during Mass, please contact the leaders at catholic@cwru.edu.

·         And, as always:

Patristic Quote of the Week

Hermas: “FIRST Of all, believe that there is one God who created and finished all things, and made all things out of nothing. He alone is able to contain the whole, but Himself cannot be contained. Have faith therefore in Him, and fear Him; and fearing Him, exercise self-control. Keep these commands, and you will cast away from you all wickedness, and put on the strength of righteousness, and live to God, if you keep this commandment.” (The Shepherd, Second Book: First Commandment [A.D. 87])

Prayer Requests

Please pray for

·         Our RCIA students, as they prepare to enter the church on Holy Saturday

·         Those who are ill, especially those close to death, for comfort form them and their families

·         Those seeking employment, that they may be blessed in their search

·         Those who are divorced or experiencing difficulties in their marriages, for healing

·         All to have the strength and will to live chaste and pure lives

·         And for peace in the world and in our own hearts.

Message from Pope John Paul II

‘The desire to see Jesus dwells deep in the heart of each man and each woman. My dear young people, allow Jesus to gaze into your eyes so that the desire to see the Light, and to experience the splendor of the Truth, may grow within you… Allow this ardent desire to see God emerge from the depth of your hearts, a desire that is sometimes stifled by the distractions of the world and by the allurements of pleasures… Do not forget to seek Christ and to recognize his presence in the Church, which is like the continuation of his saving action in time and space. It is in the Church and through her that Jesus continues to make himself visible today and to allow humanity to come to him. In your parishes, movements and communities, be welcoming to one another in order to build communion among yourselves. This is the visible sign of the presence of Christ in the Church…’

(Pope John Paul II on the occasion of XIX World Youth Day 2004)
