Forming the Club

The Case Fencing Club was officially formed in September 2003. The change came about during the summer of 2003 when Fencing was removed from Case's Varsity athletics program along with Cheerleading and Golf.

We had Coach Herb James on staff with us for the 2003-2004 Season. Coach James was the Varsity coach for the Athletic team and trained under Olympic Fencing coach Kadar. When Kadar retured he had Coach James take over the varsity program.

Fencing: Case's Only Division 1 Sport

While many of us on the fencing team would like to believe this fact, the NCAA still had us listed as a Division 3 sport. However, we regularly competed against Division 1 schools through out our season (OSU, Notre Dame, NYU). So members of the athletic team told their friends we were D1 since it more accurately represented our competition level.
