About the show:

Doc Opera is a yearly medical-student run performance based in the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine. The roles that students perform include stage acting, pit orchestra, music arrangement, set design and construction, choreography, and directing. In fact, the entire show is cast and produced by medical students (with an occasional brave faculty member). Many performances are adaptations of popular songs to a medical theme. In previous years, some of the songs include:

  • (Dia)betes (Beat It by Michael Jackson)
  • Colonoscopy (Thriller by Michael Jackson)
  • Gotta Clean the Poo Poo (Chattanooga Choo Choo)
  • Heart Murmur Tango (Cell Block Tango from Chicago)
  • I Want Mylanta (I Want it That Way by Backstreet Boys)
  • Surgical Rhapsody (Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen)
  • Talk Like a Physician (Walk Like an Egyptian by the Bangles)

Dances will often accompany these parodied songs. There are also musican pieces, skits, and videos that highlight the life of the medical students.

This year, 2009, marks the 25th anniversary of Doc Opera. The theme is "Back to the Future." To see a preview of this year's production, click here. The show time is Saturday December 5, 2009 at 8PM. Additionally, friends, family, and alumni of CWRU SOM and CCLCM are invited a reception at 6PM.
