2006 DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS
DOROTHY L. HOZA AWARD –
Esther Erb (Cross Country &
Track)
The Dorothy L. Hoza Award was
established in 1960 in honor of a former member of the
Physical Education Department of Flora Stone Mather
College. The award is given to the outstanding
freshman, sophomore, or junior (new 1989) who has
been selected based on the following criteria:
She has 1.) Made a strong
contribution to the Women’s Intercollegiate Sports
Program.
2.) Maintained a high
level of academic achievement.
3.) Shown leadership
in the team.
4.) Contributed
service to the Department and University.
EMILY R. ANDREWS AWARD –
Rebecca Davis (Swimming)
The Emily R. Andrews Award
established in 1958 in honor of the former Chairwoman of
the Flora Stone Mather College Physical Education
Department. The award is given to the outstanding
senior (new 1989) who has been selected based on the
following criteria:
She has 1.) Made a strong
contribution to the Women’s Intercollegiate Sports
Program.
2.) Maintained a high
level of academic achievement.
3.) Shown leadership
in team.
4.) Contributed
service to the Department and University.
ARTHUR P. LEARY AWARD –
Alex Drollinger (Track)
The award is given to the
outstanding freshman, sophomore, or junior who
has been selected based on the following criteria:
He has 1.) Demonstrated leadership
in the team
2.) Maintained good
academic standing in the University
3.) Demonstrated good
sportsmanship.
4.) Made a contribution
to the Department and University.
PHILIP K. “NIP” HEIM AWARD –
Santo Maimone (Football)
The Philip K. “Nip” Heim Award will
be presented annually to the senior who has made
the most outstanding contribution to Case Western
Reserve University through the Athletic Program. The
selection is based on the following criteria:
He has 1.) Demonstrated leadership
in the team.
2.) Maintained good
academic standing in the University.
3.) Demonstrated good
sportsmanship.
4.) Participated in at
least two years in the Case athletic program.
5.) Demonstrated
loyalty to team and University.
PATRICIA B. KILPATRICK AWARD –
Santo Maimone (Football) & Beth
Stepanczuk (Soccer) 4.00 GPA
The Patricia B. Kilpatrick award is
presented to the four-year varsity participant with the
highest grade point average.
NANCY GRAY “ROOKIE OF THE YEAR”
AWARD – Kristen Bowhers (Track)
This award is given to a
freshman woman who has made an OUTSTANDING
contribution to her sport during her “rookie” season.
BILL SUDECK “ROOKIE OF THE YEAR”
AWARD – Zeyad Schwen
(Soccer) & Andrew Gardella (Wrestling)
This award is given to a
freshman man who has made an OUTSTANDING
contribution to his sport during his “rookie” season.
FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR –
Amber Hammell (Basketball)
This award is given to the female
athlete that has made and OUTSTANDING contribution to
her sport.
MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR –
Carson Oren (Basketball)
This award is given to the male
athlete that has made and OUTSTANDING contribution to
his sport.
