About Archery Club

General

Since its beginning perhaps more than 15,000 years ago, the discipline of archery has fed mankind, dramatically changed world politics, and has been practiced by a countless number of people. Nearly every culture in the world developed bows, and used them for hunting, combat, and competition. Archery teaches form, precision, relaxation, and strength. This improves the archer's skill at his sport, and also betters the archer as a person.

Founded in 1978, the Archery Club is one of the oldest sports clubs at Case. We are devoted to making archery accessible to students, faculty and staff. Our members include beginners who have never shot before joining, skilled competitors, and shooters who simply find archery to be relaxing and enjoyable.

Beginners can learn from our experienced archers, coaches, and advisor. They may also use our club equipment while learning to shoot and deciding if archery is for them. All archers take advantage of our heated indoor 18m range, our equipment storage room, and our tools for maintaining bows and making arrows.

Tournaments and Competition

We historically compete at the state and national levels. We host an annual invitational tournament in November, the Caskey Classic. The Case team usually travels to state and regional tournaments, such as the National Indoor Championships, the north region venue of which has been held at Michigan State University for the last several years. Sometimes the club travels further to compete, such as to the United States Intercollegiate Archery Championships which rotate to different venues around the country.

Where You Fit In

If this sounds good to you, then you probably want to know how to get in it. The club is open to any Case student, faculty, or staff member. Membership dues for the club are $30 per semester or $40 per year (paid at the beginning of the fall semester). Your membership dues give you access to the club equipment, the club facilities, covers registration fees for away tournaments, and usually lodging and transportation on such trips.

At the beginning of each school year, we hold an informational meeting about our club, an archery demonstration if feasible, and a booth at the student activities fair. These events provide you with an excellent opportunity to learn about our organization. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions. You can also browse the rest of our website to find out what archery club is about.

If you want to shoot at tournaments, there are certain things you will be responsible for. All tournaments are governed by the National Archery Association, so to compete you have to become an NAA member. Membership costs $30 for a collegiate membership. The NAA also has a dress code for tournaments, which requires that competitors wear white, navy blue, or khaki pants or shorts (or skirts), and solid color tops. Remember though, take advantage of our fun shoots, coaching, and seminars without becoming and NAA member or changing your wardrobe.
