AVIAN INFLUENZA (“BIRD FLU”)

Case Western Reserve University is committed to communicating to the campus as much information as possible on avian influenza, better known as the “bird flu,” as well as other emerging infections, and to make recommendations about responses necessary on the part of the university in the event of an outbreak.

Along with links to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization and other agencies, this site will provide you with answers to frequently asked questions, prevention information, travel warnings and information, and treatment, as well as internal links to names and contact information for members of Case’s ad hoc bird flu committee, campus communications and other resources.

NOTE: Although there is a concern that the avian flu could turn into a pandemic disease, it has not happened as yet. Differences of opinion remain in the worldwide medical community as to whether this will occur.
