Case Western Reserve University School of Law has successfully
completed its Leading the Way in Legal Education campaign, the most ambitious campaign in the
school's 113-year history.
Begun in 1999 with a goal of $25 million, the school surpassed that amount by raising a
total of $26,418,552 million.
"The successful conclusion of the Leading the Way in Legal Education campaign enables
Case Western Reserve University School of Law to continue our fine tradition of preparing
leaders in the practice of law, public and community service, and commerce," said Gerald
Korngold, dean and McCurdy Professor of Law.
"This level of success would not have been possible without the unprecedented level of
support we received from alumni and friends of the school," Korngold added. "I would like to
thank everyone who made a financial contribution or otherwise assisted in the campaign. Their
support has always been, and continues to be, essential to the law school's advancement."
Campaign co-chairs were George N. Aronoff, a 1958 law graduate of the school, and
James F. Koehler, a 1973 law graduate. Sonia M. Winner, associate dean for law school
advancement, development and public affairs directed the campaign.
Korngold said one of the highlights of the campaign was the largest individual outright
gift in the school's history, $2 million from Roe Green and her family to name the Judge Ben C.
Green Law Library. The gift honored the late Judge Ben C. Green, a 1930 alumnus of the law
school and respected federal jurist.
The campaign also saw $1.2 million raised for the law school's annual fund, more than
doubling the fund since 1997, and increased participation by alumni, placing the school in the
top 20 in the country in alumni giving.
Korngold said funds from the campaign have been used to invest in the school's future
by:
- Adding more than 100 new classes, creating three of the school's six centers of
excellence since 2001 and establishing the innovative CaseArc Integrated Lawyering
Skills Program.
- Adding chaired professorships to enhance faculty recruitment and retention efforts.
- Providing a record number of scholarships.
- Investing in placement and student services.
"Thanks to the successful conclusion of this campaign, our law school is well positioned
to continue adding innovative educational programs and strengthening our tradition of
excellence," Korngold said.
