Cleveland residents in Wards 6, 7, 8 and 9 can now take advantage of discounts on movies, area restaurants and more if they sign up for a community card offered by Case Western Reserve University.
The Case Community Card started as a pilot program last year in Ward 9 and has now expanded to residents of the Cleveland wards surrounding the university as a way to continue building stronger relationships with the local community. With the Case Community Card, the university's neighbors will have access to some of the same discounts, services and facilities that are offered to university faculty, staff and students.
Cardholders can receive discounts on food at area restaurants such as Major's Club Isabella, Rascal House and the Cleveland Museum of Art Café. Also, the card can be used to purchase discount tickets to Cleveland Cavaliers games and other special events at Gund Arena, as well as local amusement parks, movie theaters, and the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.
In addition to discount tickets, cardholders can receive special prices at the Barnes and Noble University Bookstore. Ands while they're exploring the campus, cardholders can find out more about the services and resources available to them at the university.
There is a one-time fee of $15 per application for residents interested in becoming a Case Community Card holder. With the discounts averaging 10 percent, the card pays for itself within the first few usages.
"Working closely with our community is one of Case's top priorities. By expanding the Case Community Card borders, we are inviting our neighbors to come and be a part of our campus environment," said Jacklyn J. Chisholm, Case's associate vice president for community partnerships.
In addition to the discounts, the university features a variety of services that are open to the public. They include the high-quality, low-cost dental clinic services, dental screening programs for Cleveland Municipal School students in grades 2 through 6, and wireless Internet access. These services do not require the Case Community Card.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and a resident in Wards 6-9. Contact Case's Center for Community Partnerships at (216) 368-3909 or go to http://www.case.edu/community to download an application. Also, beginning the last week of May residents can contact local councilpersons in Wards 6-9 or visit neighborhood libraries and community development centers for brochures.
