World renowned professor, David Cooperrider, of Case Western Reserve
University’s Weatherhead School of Management, spoke on March
21, 2005, in Herzliya, Israel, as the keynote speaker at the dedication
of the IDC Herzliya Arison School of Business.
In his speech, entitled Scenes from A Spiritual Revolution in Business
and Society, Cooperrider discussed the revolution in management education,
marked by a turn to values that is erasing boundaries between American’s
highest values and their business lives. He introduced the audience
to the Center for Business as an Agent for World Benefit (BAWB), founded
by Cooperrider and housed at the Weatherhead School of Management.
BAWB
uses the Internet to create a “school within a school” with
its own concentration of study and the ability to build learning alliances
with other management schools like the Arison School, to create a formidable
archive of stories of innovations, and to provide expertise for complex
national and international projects.
Cooperrider is the author and creator of Appreciative Inquiry (AI),
a philosophy and approach to change, grounded in the discipline of Organizational
Behavior, which searches for the best in people, their organizations,
and the relevant world around them. It involves systematic discovery
of strengths, assets, and core capabilities of an organization. It has
been proven to catalyze new thinking about goals, strategies, and organizations
as systems.
He has met several times with the Dalai Lama and business
executives from major companies to discuss the
topic of ethics in business, the rapid growth of management education
around the world, and how successfully engage the millions of students
in business schools today in business ethics.
Additionally, in June
2004, Cooperrider helped the UN Global Compact
to design a Leadership Summit and guided a room
of 500 CEO's at the United Nations in a full day
dialogue to consider what they might do together to eradicate poverty,
support human rights, and fight corruption in the world.
