Case Western Reserve University has joined a tuition savings plan that
will allow parents the opportunity to lock in current tuition rates
for future use.
Case recently joined the Independent 529 Plan,
a prepaid college tuition plan tailored specifically
for private colleges. Under the program, individuals
can purchase tuition certificates that can be used
for future tuition at Case. For example, by joining
the program, the parents of an elementary-age child
now can lock in the current tuition rate and redeem
the certificate for use at Case if their child
has been accepted to the university.
“Case Western Reserve University is always
looking for ways to assist families with paying
for college. The Independent 529 Plan will allow
parents to start saving for college now by locking
in today’s tuition rates. Families will know
how much they need to contribute now, and could
have their child’s education paid for by
the time the student is ready to attend. If the
college-bound student has been accepted to Case
and the family has used the Independent 529 Plan,
it will be one less thing for them to worry about,” said
Hossein Sadid, Case’s chief financial and
administrative officer.
With the cost of tuition on the rise at universities
and colleges around the country, Case university
officials say the Independent 529 Plan offers parents
and school-age children who are thinking about
Case a viable option for prepaying for college
at a manageable rate.
“College is a time of growth and endless
opportunities. If the family already knows that
they’ve taken care of tuition everyone -
parents and the college-bound student - can focus
on and enjoy this exciting stage in life,” Sadid
said.
The Independent 529 Plan is run by the nonprofit
Tuition Plan Consortium and administered by TIAA-CREF
Tuition Financing, Inc. Funds saved can be used
at any of the more than 240 participating colleges
and universities around the country, including
14 in Ohio.
