  • Nottingham-Spirk’s “Start-up Tripod Model”
  • The value of intellectual property.

Since its founding in 1972, Nottingham-Spirk has grown into one of the leading new product invention and development groups in the U.S. It has spearheaded the creation of hundreds of products and holds more than 400 commercialized patents. Combined sales of the products the firm has created exceed $30 billion. In recent years Nottingham-Spirk has helped to start eight new companies.

Nottingham and Spirk received degrees in industrial design from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1972. In addition, Spirk is the chairman of the Architectural Review Board of Gates Mills, OH, and Nottingham is vice chairman of the board of the Cleveland Institute of Art.

Designed to reflect Weatherhead's own legacy of innovation, the Bold Thinkers series brings renowned speakers to Weatherhead each year. Speakers address Weatherhead's students, faculty and alumni about the bold ideas that have propelled them to the forefront of their field. These bold thinkers challenge convention, create new standards, and are setting the course for the future of business, education, science, technology, the arts, government and other fields.
