“Give
up your lunch money for a day” will be the theme
January 20–31 as students at the Case Western
Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management
challenge their counterparts at the School of Law
and the School of Medicine in a race to see who
can raise the largest amount of money for Asian
tsunami disaster victims.
Spearheaded by Weatherhead’s
Graduate Business Student Association (GBSA), the
fundraising effort encourages students, faculty and staff at all three
schools to donate the equivalent of lunch money for one day. All proceeds
will be donated to the United States Fund for Unicef.
GBSA will begin
collecting donations at 4:30 p.m. January 20 in
Room 103 of the Peter B. Lewis Building, during
a special discussion hosted by Weatherhead’s Dean
Myron Roomkin entitled “Socio-economic Impact of the Tsunami in Southeast
Asia.”
Dean Roomkin, along with Susan Helper, Weatherhead Professor of
Economics, David Salai, Director of the International Pure Water Project at
the Battelle Institute, and Suzanne Siefert, Chief
Operating Officer of the American Red Cross, will
discuss the gigantic recovery effort needed in
such a dire situation with an emphasis on management
of the recovery process. There will be a question-and-answer session
following the presentation.
According to the GBSA, the “give up your lunch money for a day” competition
is a result of the Weatherhead community being moved by the plight of the people
in countries affected by this tragedy and wishing to help the tsunami victims
who are in such desperate need.
