Barco, Inc., an industry leader in computer graphics projection, is the latest major technology vendor to sign on to Case's Strategic Technology Partnership.
Through the Strategic Technology Partnership Program, which is administered by Case's Office of Information Technology Services, the university develops partnerships with hardware, software, telecommunications and other technology vendors which enables Case to negotiate business contracts for these items and share the reduced costs and improved efficiency with its technology affiliates. Case and its affiliates are all part of the university's Strategic Partnerships and Alliances program.
Barco, an international company headquartered in Kortrijk, Belgium, is active in three key areas of imaging technology. Barco designs and develops solutions for large screen visualization, display solutions for life-critical applications, and systems for visual inspection. Barco has a network of subsidiaries, distributors and agents in almost 100 countries. Its U.S. operations are located in Kennesaw, Ga.
As part of the partnership program, Barco products will be installed in campus classrooms for the use and benefit of Case faculty and students. Over the past 12 months, the university has purchased several Barco IQ G300 projectors in classrooms around campus as part of the Technology Enhanced Classroom (TEC) initiative. Additional projectors/systems are being installed or will be installed throughout the rest of the academic year.
"Our goal is to provide the best support possible for the university's instructional environment," said Lev Gonick, Case's CIO and vice president for information technology services. "The installation of Barco products and our subsequent strategic partnership will give our faculty, staff and students access to the highest quality imaging available. Case's goal is to create the world's most powerful learning environment. Choosing 'best of breed' technology is part of our strategy for obtaining that goal."
The Strategic Partnerships and Alliance (STA) is charged to re-engineer the rapid changing technology procurement processes and needs through joint efforts of Case with its nonprofit affiliates and neighboring institutions such as the Cleveland Institute of Music and Cleveland Institute of Art. In addition, STA participates in University Circle and Northeast Ohio initiatives aimed at creating and improving the regional technological infrastructure, as well as develop and maintain technological partnerships with vendors on behalf of the university and the alliance members. Through collaborative efforts, STA provides high quality, state-of-the-art technological resources to all program participants.
Other STA members include University Hospitals Health System, MetroHealth System, University Circle Inc., the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, HealthSpace Cleveland, Baldwin-Wallace College, John Carroll University, Lorain County Community College, Cleveland State University, Ursuline College, the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes and the Western Reserve Historical Society.
