Monday, December 13 will mark the first anniversary of the capture and imprisonment of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein. Michael Scharf, Professor of Law and director of the War Crimes Research Office at the Case Western Reserve University School of Law, is available for comment and analysis on the legal case being prepared against Hussein. Professor Scharf recently returned from London, where he was one of an elite group of experts assembled to train the Iraqi prosecutors and judges who will try Hussein. At the request of the Iraqi Special Tribunal, last week the Case War Crimes Research Office provided a comprehensive memorandum on the legal issues that the Tribunal will have to grapple with in the Hussein trial. Scharf is the author of seven books including Peace with Justice? War Crimes and Accountability in the Former Yugoslavia and Slobodan Milosevic on Trial: A Companion. Professor Scharf has appeared on CNN News, and “The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer,” “Nightline with Ted Koppel,” “The O’Reilly Factor,” and his op-eds have been published in the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times and Boston Globe.
