The Center for Regional Economic Issues (REI) at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management has joined forces with one of the region’s leading economists to help power economic development in northeast Ohio.
Jack Kleinhenz, chief executive officer of the business and economics consulting firm Kleinhenz & Associates, has been named senior regional economist at REI. He will consult with the center on a variety of projects aimed at promoting economic growth.
“We are delighted to have Jack as part of our team,” said Ed Morrison, REI executive director. “His in-depth knowledge of businesses and the economic climate of northeast Ohio will greatly enhance REI’s resources and help us to strengthen the connections among the individuals and institutions driving our economy.”
"I'm pleased to be joining REI,” said Kleinhenz. “It has become a major innovator in how we think about regional economic development in Northeast Ohio. In particular, they are building the kind of university-based, open networks that drive regional growth."
As head of his own consulting company, Kleinhenz has worked with a variety of Cleveland-area firms, including several Fortune 500 companies. Prior to opening Kleinhenz & Associates, he had been chief economist and consultant to the Greater Cleveland Growth Association. Earlier he served as an assistant vice president with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. A contributing economic forecaster to the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Economic Outlook panel, he was recognized for forecasting excellence each year from 2000-2003. He is a lecturer in economics at the Weatherhead School.
A Cleveland native, Kleinhenz earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from John Carroll University, where he has been named one of the top 50 School of Business graduates.
He holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from the University of Notre Dame, and has completed post-graduate programs at the Weatherhead School and Carnegie Mellon University. Kleinhenz is a member of the Governor of Ohio’s Council of Economic Advisors, a board member of Notre Dame College, a corporate director for Beverage Distributors Inc., and a board member of National Association of Business Economists (NABE). He is chairman of NABE’s educational foundation and a member of NABE’s statistics committee, which meets regularly with federal policymakers and statistical agencies.
