With Cleveland recently named as the country’s most impoverished city, job placement and retention for city residents has become more critical than ever. A forum devoted to those topics, titled “Eliminating Impoverishment: Innovative Models to Improving Job Placement and Retention” will be held at Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management, 11119 Bellflower Road, on Tuesday December 21, from 4-5:30 p.m.
The forum is free and open to the public, but advance registration is encouraged. It is part of the Weatherhead School’s Center for Regional Economic Issues’s (REI) continuing discussion series Tuesdays@REI.
Panelists include Walter Ginn, executive director of Towards Employment; Yvonne Tufts Jeans, workforce manager for ShoreBank Cleveland; and Randell McShepard, director of Community Affairs for RPM International Inc. and chair of Cleveland’s Workforce Investment Board. Moderating will be James Harris, a partner in H/L Communications.
Ginn will report on progress with ACHIEVE, Towards Employment’s new business-directed, on-site national model. Jeans will discuss the expansion of Jobs Partnership in Cleveland, an innovative, faith-based job placement model first developed in Raleigh, N C. McShepard will address regional job placement and retention initiatives.
The Tuesdays@REI series is designed to foster innovation and provide information about collaborative efforts taking place here and in other regions across the country; best practices and how new ideas can be applied to build a prosperous, globally competitive Northeast Ohio.
Parking is available at the Campus Center Garage adjacent to Severance Hall on East Boulevard. To register for the forum go to www.weatherhead.case.edu/rei/events/register.cfm
