Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals Health System (UHHS) and University Circle Incorporated (UCI) will be enhancing parking and shuttle bus services for University Circle by hiring a nationally renowned parking company whose clients include the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago, Harvard Medical School in Boston and the Cleveland Clinic.
Following months of discussion between leaders at Case, UHHS and UCI, and a comprehensive review of parking services, Standard Parking Corp. will be awarded the contract for Case, UHHS and UCI’s parking and transportation services.
Standard, which is headquartered in Chicago and has offices in Cleveland, has a diversified client base that also includes the Arco Tower in Los Angeles, Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Cleveland Hopkins Airport and Playhouse Square.
“We are pleased to team up with one of the nation’s leading parking facility management companies in a new relationship that will offer University Circle institutions enhanced services at significant savings,” said Steven Standley, senior vice president at UHHS.
The transition to Standard, expected to be complete in early 2005, represents significant opportunities to contain costs and improve service not just for the university, UHHS and UCI but also for all entities involved in the current University Circle parking garage and parking lot operations and shuttle bus program, according to Standley.
Campus parking and shuttle services previously were managed by UCI. This transition will affect 47 full-time and 54 part-time employees. Standard Parking has indicated they are interested in hiring UCI staff currently working with the Case, UH and UCI parking and shuttle bus services, provided they meet the company’s employment requirements. UCI will be providing job search and interviewing training sessions for affected employees. “Our first priority is ensuring that UCI employees affiliated with parking and bus services will have new employment opportunities with Standard,” said Terri Hamilton Brown, president of UCI.
The three institutions involved – Case, UH and UCI – are collaboratively managing the transition to ensure that it is seamless and efficient. Standard also will provide amenities like an emergency car service, vehicle cleaning, directional signage and umbrellas in inclement weather. Case, UHHS and UCI are currently in discussions with Standard, and details regarding future operations are forthcoming.
“We all begin this new agreement with Standard at a good time,” said Hossein Sadid, chief financial and administrative officer for Case. “With some of the university’s offices moving to Playhouse Square, transportation becomes an increasingly higher priority. Working with Standard will help ensure optimal parking and shuttle services.”
