Elvis Sverko, 31, of Willoughby, received a master’s degree in control systems engineering from Case three years ago. A Cleveland-area native, Sverko is one of eight contestants picked to renovate a mansion that one of them will get to keep. The show concluded on Saturday, Nov. 13 with TBS viewers voting to give one of the eight competitors the keys to the newly-renovated mansion in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The show started with an outdated estate desperately in need of repair. The “eight amateur home remodelers” were determined to turn the eyesore into a paradise. The competitors lived and worked together on the house, one room at a time, sometimes getting on each other’s nerves but having fun at the same time.
Before beginning on each project, the renovators voted for one person to serve as project foreperson. The person leads the group to complete the project, juggling assignments, making tough decisions and trying to maintain group cohesiveness in the face of mounting deadlines and flaring tempers.
An electrical engineer by trade, Sverko says in his bio on the TBS show’s web site that he is a “home improvement hound dog” that is certain to provide “The Mansion” with a dose of comic relief. Although Sverko is no stranger to doing the dirty work, the “softer side” of this “gentle giant” enjoys interior design and occasionally writing poetry. He is married and lives in Willoughby with his wife and two daughters.
