Case celebrates International Education Week with variety of events

Image: International Education WeekDuring November 13–19, Case Western Reserve University’s campus will rock with an international dance party, and the delectable smells from a Malaysian food festival will waft across campus during celebrations that are part of International Education Week.

According to Edith Berger, director of Case’s international student services office, International Education Week is an opportunity for the campus community to celebrate “all aspects of international education, and a chance to recognize international collaboration. We want to let our students know they’re appreciated.”

For the past five years, the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education have sponsored International Education Week, which is celebrated on college campuses, K-12 schools, businesses and community organizations nationwide. According to a statement from Secretary of State Colin Powell, “International Education Week provides an opportunity to highlight the benefits of international education and exchange; to express appreciation for students and scholars who study and teach here; and to commend the millions of people who build and strengthen bridges of international understanding by organizing and participating in exchange programs.”

Elise Lindsay, assistant director of Case’s international student services office, said International Education Week festivities on campus “are a wonderful opportunity for other students to travel without needing a passport. We want to celebrate and recognize diversity on campus and the contributions from people all over the world.”
