Meet the Lab

Mathew Lesniewski, PhD

LMathew L. Lesniewski, Ph.D. is a research associate in the Department of Hematology/Oncology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.  Dr. Lesniewski joined the Laughlin lab in September of 2005.  He graduated from Ohio State University in 1991 with a B.S. in biological sciences.  In 2003 he received his Ph.D. from Kent State University in biomedical sciences while working with Dr. Chun-che Tsai and Dr. John Docherty on the development on novel anti-herpes drugs.  He has previously worked at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation with Dr. Philip Pellett on cytomegalovirus replication.  Currently, his research interests include the differences in transcriptional regulation, and cell signaling found in umbilical cord T-cells compared to Adult T-cells.  In addition the role of theses differences in the incidences of acute Graft versus Host Disease.  More specifically, he is addressing question of the role of the transcription factor Bach2 and its regulatory relationship to NFAT1 during T-cell development and stimulation.
