Dr. Mary Laughlin, MD
Mary J. Laughlin, MD, Principal Investigator, is Associate Professor of Medicine and Pathology, Dr. Donald and Ruth Weber Goodman Professor of Innovative Cancer Therapeutics,
and is Director of the Allogeneic Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Case Western Reserve/University Hospitals Ireland Cancer Center. She is internationally recognized as an expert in unrelated umbilical cord blood allogeneic transplantation for patients with hematologic disorders. This individual has prior training and experience in in vitro stem cell characterization and expansion. Further studies ongoing in Dr. Laughlin's laboratory are focused on nuclear factor of activated lymphocytes (NFAT) in UCB T lymphocytes. She has and will conduct angiogenesis studies including EPC culture from marrow and UCB, in vitro assays including flow cytometry and AC133 and CD34 cell sorting, Northern/Southern/Western blot analyses, gene array analyses and interpretation, matrigel tube formation, and chorioallantoic membrane vessel formation, immunohistochemitry, confocal imaging, doppler flow analyses in NOD.SCID mice, as well as the design and implementation of future human clinical trials based on this work. Further studies conducted under Dr. Laughlin's direction are focused on adenovirus transduction of UCB CD34+ stem cells conferring HIV resistance.
