Division of Research

Members of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology are involved in a variety of active research projects many of which are performed on an interdepartmental basis with members of other clinical and basic science departments within the Medical School. These activities span the breathe of investigative Obstetrics and Gynecology, from direct clinical trials to basic laboratory research that can be translated to patient care. Members of the Division of Research strive to advance the understanding of women's health and reproduction.

The Department's laboratory facilities for research and training include large core laboratory facilities on the 8th and 9th floors of the MacDonald Women's Hospital. The laboratories are fully equipped for up-to date research in molecular and cellular biology.

As members of the faculty of Case School of Medicine, researchers in the department have access to several core facilities. These include: The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC), which is an NIH-funded resource specifically designed to support patient-oriented research. Core laboratories in the Ireland Cancer Center (UH) and Case School of Medicine: confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, gene expression array, molecular cytogenetics, proteomics, real-time PCR, and tissue procurement. Core laboratories at the Cleveland Clinic: flow cytometry, gene expression, hybridoma antibody, imaging, proteomics, virus, and the storm imager and phosphorimager laboratory.

Director's Message

Successful basic research and the application of new observations to clinical practice results from the marriage of new and creative ideas, hard work, synergistic teams of investigators, and minds that are dedicated to rigorous precision in the application of investigative tools, yet open to the incorporation of new ideas and the modification of preexisting theories.
