Comprehensive Didactic Program
PGY-1 (Three hours per week) – an introduction to the field of psychiatry and a comprehensive review of clinical neurology

PGY-2 (One half-day per week) – a more focused and in depth study of the field of psychiatry with an introduction to psychotherapy

PGY-3 (Two half days per week) – continued study of psychotherapy, further education on psychiatric specialties, a review of general medicine and participation in case conferences

PGY-4 (Two half-day per week) – continued participation in case conferences, advanced education on a variety of topics on psychiatry as well as a series on transitioning into practice after training and a review of neurology in preparation for the boards

Unique Training Opportunities
Long Term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program:

* PGY-2 – One patient seen for one 50 minute session per week followed by one hour of supervision with a psychoanalyst. Three hours of protected time from clinical duties

* PGY-3 – A minimum of one day devoted to psychotherapy and psychotherapy supervision in our outpatient clinic

Generous Elective Time
o PGY-2 – 8 weeks
o PGY-4 – 10 months

Flexibility in Program Design
Residents may choose a mentor and design their own electives, some of which include Administrative Psychiatry, Women’s Mental Health, Pathological Gambling

Limited Administrative Responsibilities
Comprehensive support services on the inpatient unit, including Social Work, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. 24 hour coverage by Emergency Psychiatric Assessment Team (EPAT) in medical emergency room, coordinating all outside hospital transfers, and completing all pre-certifications for patient admissions.
