GRADUATE PROGRAMS
-
A minimum of 1200 clock hours of supervised practice experience is included in the curriculum.
-
Every effort is made to match experiences with the student's career goals and interests. These experiences usually begin in the second semester and are scheduled concurrently with the academic coursework.
-
Preceptors for the Supervised Practice are distinguished practitioners in their respective areas of expertise.
-
Program faculty maintain very close contact with both preceptors and students.
-
The Master of Science in Public Health Nutrition Internship Program has an Advisory Committee which meets on a regular basis to provide external program guidance and ongoing evaluation of Supervised Practice sites.
Some examples of Supervised Practice Experience sites are as follows:
-
Summer camp for children with diabetes
-
City, county, and state health departments
-
Hospitals (both in-patient and out-patient)
-
Community Dialysis Centers
-
Retirement communities
Students are required to complete a self-evaluation of competencies and objectives for each supervised practice experience. Preceptors review this self-evaluation with the student and provide additional comments. This evaluation process greatly enhances the student's professional growth and development. Before starting 'supervised practice experience', all students must:
-
Purchase professional liability insurance.
- Show evidence of the following immunizations:
(1) measles, mumps, and rubella
(2) tetanus
(3) hepatitis B
- Document tuberculin test results.
- Attend a training session as required by OSHA for all persons who may be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
- Have access to a vehicle.
