What is the significance of a minor?
• A
minor concentration requires that approximately 15 - 18 credit hours
of specified course work be completed in a discipline other than the
chosen major, and that a minimum cumulative grade point average of
2.00 be attained.
Therefore, the completion of a minor indicates that the student has made a significant
academic investment either to complement or supplement their major. The minor
in nutrition fits easily into degree programs in the sciences, social sciences,
nursing, etc.
What is required for a minor in nutrition?
• A
minor concentration in Nutrition is available through the Department
of Nutrition and requires the following:
NTRN 201 - nutrition (3 credit hours)
NTRN 343 - dietary patterns (3 credit hours)
NTRN electives - 9 to 12 credit hours, selected in consultation with a department
advisor.
The two required courses will provide the student with a foundation for subsequent
nutrition courses. The elective courses chosen thereafter will be determined
by the interests and needs of the student. An important consideration will be
the completion of prerequisites, since most nutrition courses beyond the lower
level have one or several prerequisites.
