Dietetics is a science that deals with people, food and health. Dietitians work in a variety of settings and function as members of a health care team.   As health professionals, dietitians must possess and maintain the credentials of a Registered Dietitian (RD) and/or Licensed Dietitian (LD).

The RD is a national credential granted through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the American Dietetic Association (ADA). (For disclosure: Please read the paragraph on Dr. Swain). The dietitian holding a RD is expected to maintain registration through Continuing Education.

For those interested in becoming credentiated as a dietitian, the Didactic Program in Dietetics is available at CWRU. The program is completed under the guidance of a faculty advisor in the Department of Nutrition. Upon successful completion, the student is eligible to compete for placement in a dietetic internship.
