Ryan is currently working with HIV-1 fitness.

Prior to joining the Arts Lab in September 2002, Ryan studied at the University of Washington under Dr. Gael Kurath. His research there focused on the genetic diversity, evolution, and fitness of the infectious hematopoietic necrosis virus, a rhabdovirus which infects salmon and trout, frequently causing severe disease outbreaks.

In his time outside the lab, Ryan enjoys the outdoors, travel, and cooking.
