During his time with the Arts Lab, Kalonji studied the effects of tuberculosis on HIV-1 heterogeneity, quasispecies distribution, and the implications on viral fitness. After successfully defending his PhD thesis in August 2002, Kalonji returned to the CWRU School of Medicine and has since completed his MD.
