What are Health Disparities?

Health disparities are differences in health-related outcomes by race, gender, socioeconomic status, or other grouping, and they are especially striking in the greater Cleveland area.

Center History

In January 2004, Case Western Reserve University and MetroHealth Medical Center created the Center for Reducing Health Disparities.

In 2007, the Center for Reducing Health Disparities was funded through a P60 grant from the National Institutes of Health.  This grant allowed the Center to pursue new projects that focus on community engagement, hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease, and organ donation in underserved populations.

In addition, the Center is part of the Community Engagement Core of the Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative between Case Western Reserve University, University Hospitals of Cleveland, and the Cleveland Clinic. The mission of the core is to help facilitate research opportunities for junior faculty, community organizations, and community residents.

The Center has a Health Disparities Blog for Center announcements and reports on news and research in the area of health care and health disparities.

We also have a Spanish language version of our website at Bienvenidos al Centro para la Reducción de Disparidades de Salud de Case.
