Aaron Goldenberg is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Bioethics at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). He is also Assistant Director of the Center for Genetic Research Ethics and Law and Assistant Director of the Department’s Master’s Program. Aaron received his BS in Science and Technology Studies from the Lyman Briggs Program at Michigan State University. He also has an MA in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve and an MPH in Health Education and Public Health Genetics from the University of Michigan. Dr. Goldenberg received his PhD in Bioethics from Case Western Reserve in 2009. Before beginning his PhD training, Aaron was the Center Manager for the University of Michigan’s Center for Genomics and Public Health, and spent a summer as a fellow at the National Institutes of Health, working with the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Genetic Testing.
Dr. Goldenberg’s work focuses on the ethical and social issues surrounding advances in public health genomics, biobanking, health disparities, and the intersection between bioethics and public health ethics. His dissertation focused on the ethical issues surrounding the use of Michigan's residual newborn screening bloodspots for research purposes. Recently, he has been working on a number of projects related to the use of biobanked pediatric samples for genetic research, the use of stored tissues from recently deceased individuals for gene-tissue expression studies (GTEX), and public attitudes towards the use of genetic research to address health disparities.
