Bio

 

Dena S. Davis received her Ph.D. in Religion from the University of Iowa in 1987 and her J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1990.  She teaches bioethics at Cleveland-Marshall College of Law (Cleveland State University) and directs the Population Issues Group at Case’s Center for Genetic Research Ethics and Law. 

Davis has been a Fulbright Research Fellow in India (1994), a Fulbright Teaching/Research Fellow in Israel (2002), and Fulbright Senior Specialist in Indonesia (2004) and Sweden (2007).  In 1998-99 she was a Visiting Scholar at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NIH) and in 2000-01 she was a SmithKline Beecham Distinguished Research Fellow at the Center for the Study of Law, Science and Technology (Arizona State University). Davis is legal consultant to the Committee on Bioethics of the American Academy of Pediatrics (1999-2007), and served on the Board of the American Academy of Religion (2000-06), where she chaired the Committee on the Public Understanding of Religion. 

She is the author of  Genetic Dilemmas: Reproductive Technology, Parental Choices, and Children’s Futures (2001) and, with Laurie Zoloth, of Notes from a Narrow Ridge: Religion and Bioethics (1999).  Her work focuses on the social and ethical consequences of advances in genetics and reproductive technology.
