Bio

 

Christian Simon, Ph.D., joined the faculty of the Bioethics Department in September 2003 as an Assistant Professor. Dr. Simon completed his doctoral degree in medical anthropology at the University of California, San Francisco and Berkeley, and his undergraduate training at Rhodes University in South Africa. His postdoctoral training included the study of barriers to the informed consent process for childhood leukemia. Dr. Simon holds other appointments in the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and the Anthropology Department of Case Western Reserve University. His grants and awards include a KO7 Career Development Award, a Distinguished Dissertation Award Nomination, an Outstanding Professor Commendation, several Regents Fellowships, and a Prestige Scholarship for Doctoral Studies. Dr. Simon has served as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology, Human Organization, ETHOS, and several other leading publications. Dr. Simon's professional interests include: research ethics and informed consent; e-medicine; communication in cancer care; international health and bioethics; and, participatory community health.
