Continuing Education
Over the last decade, three CWRU units -The Center for Human
Genetics, the Center for Law and Medicine, and the Department
of Bioethics-have co-sponsored a series of spring policy workshops
on issues in genetics, ethics, and law. Under the rubric of
the CWRU Genetics, Ethics, and law (GEL) program, we have successfully
raised private foundation support for this conference series.
With the establishment of the CGREAL and the collaboration of
our colleagues in the School of Medicine's Office of Continuing
Education and the University's Office of Research Administration,
we propose to leverage this series into an independently supported
program of continuing education workshops on ethical, legal,
and social issues in the design and conduct of genetic research.
These workshops will be aimed at genetic investigators, Institutional
Review Board members, and academic administrators. In addition
to providing a training service, these conferences will serve
as a useful dissemination device for the Center's work, since
their target audiences are the people who have the opportunity
to put our findings into practice.
