FROM THE CHAIRMAN, DR. MICHAEL WEISS, M.D, Ph.D.
As Chair of the Department of Biochemistry at the CWRU School of Medicine, I am delighted to welcome you to our community and to
introduce our diverse and gifted faculty, fellows, students, and staff.
The Department of Biochemistry is a center of excellence in research and teaching at the Case School of Medicine with 22 faculty, 11 postdoctoral fellows, 46 graduate students, and a large community of undergraduate and high-school research assistants. Together, we are investigating both fundamental principles of biochemistry and their application to human genetics and disease. These studies include research in
metabolism (with application to obesity and diabetes mellitus), gene regulation
(with applications to mammalian development, cancer and infectious disease), protein folding and misfolding (with application to neurodegenerative diseases), and structural biology (with applications to cell signaling and drug design). These are exciting frontiers of biomedical science, and our approaches often open interdisciplinary collaborative investigations with clinical colleagues: biochemistry from the bench to the bedside and back in a cycle of translational discovery.
I encourage you to share in our collective adventure: please tour our website, which includes research descriptions, recent publications, seminars, student
activities, and application material.
Thank you for your interest.
