HERBERT S. STEUER MEMORIAL AWARD
FOR WORK IN ANATOMY
Herbert
S. Steuer was a member of the Western Reserve
University medical class of 1921. After his
hospital service, he opened an office for
radiology. He was very interested in anatomy
and gave what time he could to work in that
department. He became a member of the faculty
and was appointed a demonstrator in anatomy in
1923, a position he held until his death on June
6, 1928. His death was due to an accident in
the course of his investigative work in x-ray
technique.
His medical associates and his personal friends
raised $2,000 and requested that this be a
“memorial of his work and life perpetuated as
far as possible in the department he loved best;
anatomy.” The income from this fund is awarded
annually to the medical student or other
investigator “who in the opinion of the head of
the department has done or is doing meritorious
original work in the Department of Anatomy.”
