The Doctor of
Philosophy program is designed for students seeking an advanced
education in modern biological research and/or a teaching position in
higher academic institution. Students may choose either the Anatomy Track
or the Evolutionary Biology Track.
For the Anatomy Track, pre-doctoral
students enter the Department of Anatomy through the Biomedical Sciences Training program (BSTP)
or the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP).
For the Evolutionary Biology track, pre-doctoral students
enter
by direct admission to the Anatomy Department; such students should
have a general idea of the type of research they would like to pursue
and should indicate at least one Evolutionary Biology faculty member with whom
they would like to work.
Requirements of the School of Graduate
Studies for Ph.D. Degree
General: Cumulative
grade point average of 2.50 at completion of 12 semester hours of study
(or 2 semesters); cumulative GPA of 2.75 at completion of 21 semester
hours of study (or 4 semesters); cumulative GPA of 3.0 at graduation.
Credit
required for doctorate:
Entering with
bachelor’s degree or equivalent – 36 credits of
graduate coursework in Case School of Graduate Studies required
Entering with
master’s degree or equivalent – 18 credits of
graduate coursework in Case School of Graduate Studies required
Candidacy status
must be achieved no later than completion of 36 credits if entering
with bachelor’s degree, and no later than completion of 27
credits if entering with master’s degree.
In addition to the
coursework requirements listed above, 18 credits of the Course, ANAT
701 – Dissertation Research, must be completed after
achieving candidacy status and prior to graduation.
A research
dissertation is required.
Residency
Requirements: The doctoral student must be registered in at least 6
consecutive academic terms from the date of matriculation to a date not
exceeding 5 years after completion of the first credited hours of ANAT
701.
