Advancement to Candidacy
Requirements for admission
to Ph.D. Candidacy include:
Completion of all
core and elective courses and being in good
academic standing
Successful
completion of IBMS 500 (Being a Professional
Scientist)
Participation in
the Anatomy Seminar series
Successful
completion of 3 Research Rotations (ANAT 400)
Successful
completion of the written and oral defense of
Candidacy Examination
Selection of the
Research Advisor
Candidacy Examination
In the summer following the
second year of residency, a student in the
Evolutionary Biology Track will sit for a
written comprehensive examination that will
include core evolutionary biology principles and
reflect the student’s coursework and research
area. The student will have an oral defense of
the written exam in front of the Candidacy
Examination Committee. This committee shall
consist of five faculty members and includes at
least one member of the Graduate Research
Executive Council. The oral defense will take
place within one week after completion of the
written exam.
