YPS Hosts 12th Annual Workshop
The Mandel Center's Youth Philanthropy and Service (YPS) program welcomed approximately 200 attendees to its 12th Annual Workshop on February 6, 2008 at the Holiday Inn South in Independence, Ohio.
The YPS Annual Workshop provides K-12 teachers and administrators, youth development professionals, and K-12 youth with an opportunity to learn best practices in service-learning and hear about local projects. This year’s Workshop included 24 breakout sessions (including 5 with youth presenters) and 20 exhibitors.
This year's keynote speaker was Cathryn Berger Kaye, author and international service-learning consultant. On February 5th, Cathryn presented a special pre-workshop training for educators based on her book The Complete Guide to Service Learning and her new research-based curriculum Strategies for Success with Literacy.
Attendees had the following to say about this year’s Annual Workshop:
- A very beneficial, thought-provoking workshop. [adult]
- I learned a lot of things about myself that I didn’t realize and I know that I matter. [student]
- I thoroughly enjoyed it, learned a lot, it was well organized, and the guest speaker did really well. [adult]
- I think the breakout sessions were great. I learned a lot and now have a lot of information to use at my school. [student]
