Treu-Mart Fellowship Receives Renewed Funding, Accepting Applications

The Treu-Mart Fund (a supporting organization of The Cleveland Foundation and the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland) renewed support for the Mandel Center's Treu-Mart Youth Development Fellowship Program. The new one-year, $459,000 grant enables the Mandel Center to provide professional development training for a new class of as many as 32 youth workers, as well as to develop extended training and support opportunities for organizations.

Thus far, 72 youth workers in the region have gone through this nine-month program that teaches community workers how to nurture youth to be socially competent, develop a sense of autonomy and strengthen the belief in the future. Fellows have been between the ages of 24 and 56 and have a wide range of educational backgrounds from high school diplomas to post masters course work.

"Participating in this Fellowship Program has allowed me to explore my own resiliency and realize how beneficial my personal experiences are in the work that I do with youth," said Connie Fletcher, graduate of the Fellowship Program.

Youth workers can be nominated to the Fellowship Program by their agencies, other youth workers, or people in the general community who recognize the contributions these individuals are making to youth.
